Himachal and Uttarakhand’s higher reaches saw rain & snowfall

Uttarakhand’s high reaches the shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath and Yamunotri saw snowfall while the lower hills and plain areas continued to experience light to moderate rains bringing cold in the state. Himalaya’s higher reaches saw snowfall following continuous rains for the past 2-3 days posing problems for pilgrims undertaking the Chardham Yatra pilgrimage.

In Himachal Pradesh, Snowfall in the higher reaches and intermittent rain in low and mid hills brought the temperatures across the state to comfortable levels. Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, experienced 18 cm of snow fall. The picturesque tourist resort of Manali experienced 43 mm of rain today, while the majestic Rohtang Pass, just 52 km from Manali, experienced mild spells of snow fall.

To Promote Uttarakhand tourism by organising rafting in Tons river

As part of tourism activity Uttarakhand tourism department announced plans for organising whitewater rafting in Tons river in Dehradun district. “A national rafting championship will be organized for the first time in Tons river at Mori block in the Dehradun district, where only 3-4 rafting companies will operate”, said tourism officials. The championship will be held in the last week of May.

“We have chosen Tons river as the new destination for whitewater rafting as the adventure sports had been restricted to only between Devprayag and Muni Ki Reti,” said A K Dwivedi Joint Director Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board.

Uttarakhand dense forest seeing Operation Gajraj

In Tarai Forest, A badly injured elephant who was hit by a train in Uttarkhand state is being treated by vets in the jungle itself. Its called “Operation Gajraj”. Veterinary doctors travelled 5 Kms into the dense jungle to save that wild elephant, severely injured for the past 4 days after being hit by a train. “It was very difficult for us. We didn’t know the intensity of its injuries,” said Dr Gautam Bhalla, a veterinary doctor. Elephant was badly hurt in the rear while trying to cross the railway line. “This was a challenge for us to medicate it, but we did it,” said Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate.
